Building Belonging: Organizing Our Communities for Safer Events
Sat 3/29, 11:00 am – 12:00 pm
Boise Centre East - Room 420A
Presented by Western States Center
From minority-owned businesses and publicly owned venues to small-town Pride celebrations, events and venues are increasingly under pressure from bigoted and anti-democracy groups. However, what event organizers excel at - bringing people together for shared experiences that can build a sense of purpose and belonging - is a key ingredient in strengthening local democratic institutions and building community. Using case studies, Western States Center will lead a discussion with Idaho venue owners on effective strategies to ensure safe and inclusive community spaces can thrive despite threats from actors promoting bigotry and violence.
