Getting Started with a Self-Hosted Home Assistant
Sat 3/28, 10:00 am – 11:50 am
JUMP 5th floor : The Makerspace
Are you interested in joining the 21st century and making your home smarter and more efficient? Do you already have some smart appliances but are tired of installing yet another app for a single device? Do you have concerns about Google and Amazon having access to all your home data, or do you not want all your lights to get stuck on during an AWS outage? If so, then this hands-on workshop is right for you.
In this workshop, we will cover the basics of what Home Assistant is and how it differs from cloud-based solutions like Alexa and Google Home. We will then go through a live demo of setting up a new Home Assistant on a local network and integrating basic devices like lights and sensors. By the end of this session, attendees will leave with a list of materials and skills they need to get started with their own journey with a self-hosted Home Assistant.
