Walsy & the Riverdogs is a 3-piece band native to Idaho mixing punk, old school country western, surf/spaghetti western with American and Irish folk music. Formed accidentally in the winter of 2024 by singer-songwriter guitarist Wes Walsworth (ex Scotch Greens, Old Death Whisper, Andrew Sheppard Band) Wes had booked a show for the first time in many years and asked lifelong friend and favorite drummer Cameron Bouiss (Finn Riggins, Sheep Bridge Jumpers) to join him along with favorite bass player Kyle Moore (Sawtooth Shipwreck) on the Standup to liven the show up. The trio hit it off and decided to keep the band rollin and pursue some recording and live shows.
Much of the material they started with was from an album Walsworth recorded in Freemantle, Western Australia with legendary Aussie musicians circa 2010. The album was boot legged around a bit but basically has sat dormant till now...
“The time just hasn’t been right…. After moving back from Australia I hadn’t played these songs in a long time and wasn’t sure what name to release it under. So it sat hibernating for all these years and almost forgotten about… Having a fresh batch of songs for a new record and a band I love playing with has exited me musically again… I just hadn’t had any drive to play music until I had my son and started strumming to get him to sleep and came up with some new songs I liked. Having fresh ears on this old record I hadn’t heard in many years I realized I still dug it and decided I should probably get it out and imprinted in the strands of time. It was a snapshot that aged well and brought back great memories of my years in Australia. I wrote the songs shortly after my previous band the Scotch Greens de-banded and was mainly aiming to prove to myself I could make a solid record on my own. Now I feel it is a good time to release “Children of the Coyote” under Walsy & the Riverdogs, which is now available on all major platforms.”
The band will be taking their signature western punk sounds to live venues around Idaho and beyond while preparing to record the new record in Boise, Idaho this coming year.
