🏠Boise, ID
Growing up on the sounds of Oliver Mtukudzi, Nina Simone, Bob Marley, and Hugh Masekela, Mungo draws inspiration from a range of influences that blend into his unique sound. Fans often say Mungo’s music has a “Heart-Chakra-opening” expansive vibe that resonates deeply with audiences. His musical style embraces elements of R&B, afrobeat, and soulful vulnerability, transforming his own life experiences into universal feelings we all share. Dubbed a "walking piece of art," by some, Mungo brings uncommon showmanship and attention to detail to his craft and embodies art in all its forms—from designing and sewing the clothes he performs in onstage (and oftentimes those of his band) to creating choreography to the music he writes and produces. His recent work, including the Aftermath EP, showcases his ability to craft songs that connect deeply with listeners, exploring themes of love, growth, and resilience.
For Mungo, the journey is about more than just music; it’s about building community and inspiring others. Known for his authenticity and passion, he has forged meaningful connections with fans and fellow artists alike, whether onstage during electrifying live shows or offstage as a collaborator and mentor. He has also opened for soul and funk legends like Jalen Ngonda, Monophonics, Lee Fields, and Brainstory, sharing his unique artistry with audiences drawn to timeless, soulful music.
His breakout single, Wish You'd See, marked a high point, shot with Malawian director Ubwino and a talented group of dancers. The music video generated international buzz, racking up over 10,000 views on YouTube in its first week and introducing audiences to the vibrant spirit of Mungo’s music.
With each project, Mungo pushes boundaries while staying true to his core mission: to create art that resonates and brings people together.
