Music Talks

Mari Crisler is an independent musician and graphic designer whose career began nearly a decade ago touring the midwest in a twelve-passenger van with her best friends. A teenager then, she has spent most years of her youth learning about the independent music industry through personal experience and by gaining wisdom from friends and mentors. From writing and recording to creating a band’s brand identity to pitching for press, Mari has been immersed in every aspect of the music business (many times over). She has been a permanent or touring member for nine bands over the years, though her current music projects are Social Cinema (Wichita/Lincoln-based alt-rock) and Uh Oh (Omaha DIY punk), as well as a self-titled solo project. Traveling around the country has led to countless connections, but a passion for her home in the midwest and its corresponding arts community landed Mari with Social Cinema, and subsequently Midtopia, a Wichita-based artist incubator. As an industry worker, Mari understands that to succeed in the independent music ecosystem, there is power in building other artists up, creating community, and growing together.
