As a first generation Mexican American, I seek to convey the duality of the Chicana experience growing up in a predominantly white community– the struggle for acceptance in a society that often marginalizes difference. I draw inspiration from the vibrant and flamboyant world of traditional Latin artwork. I deliberately choose to honor my heritage through my choice of a rich and electrifying color palette, which juxtaposes the somber themes that populate my work. I seek to channel the anguish, the alienation, and the enduring journey of self-discovery. The complex journey of navigating cultural and generational differences and wrestling with traumas. My work is a mosaic of emotions that wrestle with the concept of identity. It is an invitation to connect with the raw and unfiltered experience of not quite belonging.
