hori bai!

Boise, ID

Sprouted from Boise’s vibrant Basque dance community, hori bai! is a seven-piece band composed of current and former Basque folk dancers. They channel the sound and spirit of erromeria, the Basque tradition of open-air social dances and concerts. Over the years, they’ve absorbed and internalized the music through their feet, their eyes, and their ears. Now, they echo that sound – and energy – back out to their audience.

Their instrumentation layers traditional instruments like the trikitixa (button accordion), pandero (tambourine), and xirula (Basque flute) with modern strings, percussion and multi-part harmonies into a driving, earthy blend that feels both ancient and right-now.

The band moves fluidly between traditional Basque folk dance tunes, contemporary folk-rock influences, and original material shaped by their community roots. What unites it all is intention. Every song is built to create connection: between dancers and musicians, between new friends and old ones, and between anyone who simply wants to move. In Euskara, there’s a phrase for that sensation: “odola dantzatzen zait soinua jotzean,” or, “my blood starts to dance when the trikitixa plays.”

hori bai! isn’t just a band to watch. They’re an experience to step into. A joyful, collective rhythm that invites every listener to become part of the music.
