Louisville, KY

Deady, a strange punk band from Louisville, KY practices in a large building across which an enormous rendering of Jack Harlow’s bust is plastered. They haul their gear up 6 flights of stairs and write their temperamental, grating, sometimes melodic music roughly around where the hometown hero's hairline is located. “Jack’s Louisville,” reads the caption below. One can imagine the juxtaposition of the band’s wiry, disjointed racket issuing from the inexplicably popular rapper’s highly manicured fluff. Fortunately, Possibility City allows for all sorts of unlikely intersections and Deady’s power and kinetic energy ensures that they stand out wherever they might find themselves. Forming during the pandemic and congealing into a unit a couple of years later, Deady has quickly become a force in Louisville’s fertile and freaky DIY scene. Earning themselves a reputation for confrontational and unpredictable live shows, they began picking up speed in 2023 garnering support spots for bands like Fear, White Reaper, and Snooper. They've also done regional tours with fellow Louisville bands Shitfire and Sunshine and will head to SXSW and Treefort later this year. The band released a self-titled EP on Never Nervous in September of last year, which Rosy Overdrive named the 3rd best EP of the year, calling it, “a potent, Brainiac-ian mix of post-punk and post-hardcore noisiness.” Deady has earned several comparisons to the aforementioned Brainiac, as well as to many other bands across the punk spectrum, from Veruca Salt to L7 to Blood Brothers. They are currently writing new, even more temperamental material, and in addition to usurping Jack Harlow and becoming Louisville's favored children once and forever they are planning to take over whatever other parts of the world they can drape their logo over. As Kierkegaard once said: “Deady ‘till I motherfucking die, bitch.”
