Boise, ID

Anika (she/her) was born and raised in Boise, Idaho and spent her childhood riding her bike in her grandparent’s backyard, along the Boise River Greenbelt, and in Idaho’s Sawtooth Forest. She graduated from Boise State University in 2023 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Writing Nonfiction. She works as a bicycle mechanic at Boise Bicycle Project and leads the local chapter of queer bike group Radical Adventure Riders. Much of her writing covers topics like gender and sociology, natural history, local music, bicycles, and radical liberation. Zine-making has become the foundation of her creativity over recent years, and in 2022 she debuted a self-published zine at Flipside Fest titled "Noisy Boise." The black and white print features interviews and stories cataloguing oral histories of musicians in her hometown. Her most recent nonfiction work-in-progress, titled “The Bimbo’s Guide to Bicycle Mechanics,” braids personal narratives with bicycle history and how gender informs her experience as a shop mechanic.
