Acapulco Lips
Seattle, WA
Acapulco Lips is back, bringing their signature psych rock psalms to the here and “NOW”, the band’s highly anticipated sophomore album. Written by lead singer and bassist Maria-Elena Herrell, guitarist Christopher Garland (Chico Detour), and drummer Jordan T. Adams (Gazebos, The Yes Masters), the record thrums with ‘60s soul and groovy, gothic undertones.
Since forming in 2012, Acapulco Lips has toured the US and Europe, sharing stages with acts such as Fred and Toody Cole, Night Beats, Mikal Cronin, Sun Atoms, and Nick Waterhouse. Their 2016 self-titled debut was the first album released by Killroom Records, a Seattle-based studio dedicated to bringing Pacific Northwest sounds above ground. High-energy appearances at festivals, including SXSW, Sasquatch!, and Bumbershoot have solidified their reputation for frenetic, feel-good performances.
The band’s recent years appear in vivid, devastating color in the new “NOW”. Drums punch with existential dread. Reverb and regret shimmer together. Memories both bright and bleak, rife with fuzzy riffs, haunt the songs’ corners and choruses. Lyrics are driven by intrusive thoughts that chase, then disappear once faced. Yearning for days past, grasping for any light ahead, the vinyl validates the human experience, offering solace in the form of a circle you can flip again and again.
Cathartic dance parties await at the group’s upcoming concerts, bolstered by the recent additions of vocalists and multi-instrumentalists Brady Harvey (Tea Cozies) and Selina Gomez. "NOW out now via Killroom Records.
