Kidfort presents Puss in Boots, a shadow puppet play set to live music, from Portland’s very own Oregon Shadow Theatre.

The ethnic diversity and rich musical traditions of New Orleans and the Louisiana bayous are the background for Oregon Shadow Theatre’s adaptation of the classic French fairytale. Antoine, the miller’s son, inherits Puss the remarkable talking cat. The two set out on a journey to impress the great King Calypso and the Princess, Sweet Emma. Soon Antoine is wrestling an alligator and Puss has to match wits with the shape changing Swamp Ogre. Colorful shadow puppets inspired by Mardi Gras’ outrageous parade costumes along with live Zydeco and Cajun music give spicy flavor to this production.

Join us for a wildly fun, club-like event for children and their families to enjoy together.

Red Yarn (aka Andy Furgeson) is a Texas-born, Oregon-based family performer who weaves folksongs and puppetry into high-energy shows for all ages. With his engaging performances, lush folk-rock recordings, and playful music videos, this red-bearded bard reinvigorates American folklore for younger generations.

With traditional and original songs that apply an indie aesthetic to folk, rockabilly, country and blues, Red Yarn’s sound is both rooted and modern. Performing in a duo with his wife and singing partner Miss Jessie, Red Yarn’s shows are a raucous, inclusive celebration of the multicultural musical heritage of the USA. As Red Yarn & Miss Jessie ramble through the landscapes of American folklore, they introduce their “critter” friends – lovable, handmade puppets – along the way.

Boise Music Lessons is here to end the mystique surrounding music and dispel the myth that you have to be inherently “musical” in order to play an instrument. Longtime music teachers, Angie and Marcus Marianthi, use music as a powerful tool to build and strengthen communities. They love teaching their students how to play together and connect with each other by sharing a song around the campfire. They host lessons and classes from their outdoor studio on the Boise Depot Bench.
