SOFI TUKKER (DJ SET)

electronic, dance, funk

Indie dance duo SOFI TUKKER just released their latest album ‘BREAD.’ An acronym for “Be Really Energetic And Dance,” it’s an ode to unrestrained movement aiming for no place other than the dancefloor (also my new motto for Treefort)! Bring your bestie and get ready to “Throw Some Ass” on Saturday (3/29) of Treefort to this GRAMMY nominated, genre defying, high octane DJ set where the two will bring their signature blend of house, Brazilian funk, drum and bass, bossa nova, pop, Portuguese poetry, and (the most Treefort thing ever) FUN!

🎧 RIYL: RÜFÜS DU SOL, NEIL FRANCES, Big Wild, DRAMA, dancing with your besties, attempting to twerk in public, going ham đŸȘ©

SHAKEY GRAVES

blues, folk, americana

Let’s kick off Main Stage with a twang! The stellar Thursday lineup features Texas-born, genre-bending musician SHAKEY GRAVES, named Alejandro Rose-Garcia who began his music journey performing as a one-man band, only accompanied by his guitar and a suitcase drum. Now, Rose-Garcia has evolved into a larger, spacey soundscape, incorporating elements of psychedelic rock with notes of folk, all with his quintessential gravelly voice. It’s been over 10 years since Shakey Graves performed an iconic set at Shrine Social Club (nĂ©e El Korah Shrine) and we cannot wait to have him return to Treefort on Thursday (3/27)!

🎧 RIYL: Caamp, Fruit Bats, Blitzen Trapper, Mt. Joy, Watchhouse, drinking whiskey around the campfire, boot stompin,’ slow dancin’ đŸ€

BRIGHT EYES

alt, indie rock, americana

There’s something so comforting about Conor Oberst’s trademark warble….and it makes me cry almost instantly. Their eleventh album released earlier this year: Five Dice, All Threes (on Dead Oceans) features some all-star vocal guests like Cat Power and The National’s Matt Berninger. With three decades of performing under their belt, BRIGHT EYES is back and better than ever. Closing out Main Stage on Sunday (3/30), join me as we cry our eyes out to classic throwback tunes from I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning and jam out to brand new songs from their latest release Five Dice, All Threes.

🎧 RIYL: Iron & Wine, Death Cab for Cutie, Band of Horses, Wilco, Broken Social Scene, crying behind the wheel of your car, cold rainy days, making smoking Camel Lights your whole aesthetic ☔

JESSICA PRATT

folk, indie, dream pop

Timeless folk songstress JESSICA PRATT has an unmistakable voice and delicate, vintage aesthetic reminiscent of dreamy 1960’s California days. Since her start in 2012, Jessica Pratt has sounded like an artist you’d discover in a dusty record store. She’s kept true to that secret underground indie sound while branching out to new genres–with pop sensation Troye Sivan sampling her voice in 2023 and this year collab-ing with A$AP Rocky. Her latest album, Here In The Pitch, reflects her timeless aesthetic while taking a turn to cinematic pop, building a whimsical world to explore.

🎧 RIYL: MJ Lenderman, Devendra Banhart, Joanna Newsom, Drugdealer, Khruangbin, Thee Sacred Souls, singing Fleetwood Mac Karaoke, being the mysterious gal in the corner, lighting incense on the daily 🌙

HOT MULLIGAN

indie, pop punk, midwest emo

Pop punk rockers HOT MULLIGAN recently released their latest album Why Would I Watch, which received critical acclaim and was hailed by Paste Magazine as the “Best Emo Outing” of the year. Blending nostalgia with the new, and fiery energy with angst, Hot Mulli has supported the likes of Fall Out Boy, The Wonder Years, and New Found Glory, and played on the Main Stage of Riot Fest, Ohio Is For Lovers Festival, and more. Now, they’re gonna rock Sunday (3/30) at Main Stage so get ready to crowd surf your lil’ heart out, babe.

🎧 RIYL: American Football, Petey, saturdays at your place, Motion City Soundtrack, Knuckle Puck, being in a band that sounds totally made up, owning checkered Vans, *teen angst* ☄

YOUTH LAGOON

indie, electronic, folk

After an eight year hiatus, YOUTH LAGOON is back making music inspired by Idaho and beyond. An alias for Idaho-based producer and composer Trevor Powers, Youth Lagoon’s majestic soundscapes are like little dream-pop worlds unto themselves. After three acclaimed albums, Youth Lagoon took a hiatus to experiment with sound and feeling, and had a triumphant return with critically acclaimed Heaven is a Junkyard in 2023, with three more singles out this year. Haunting, moody, atmospheric, and with Trevor Powers’ noteworthy ghost-like croon, we’re so stoked for Youth Lagoon to be back for a hometown performance at Treefort! You’re not gonna wanna miss this club set–be sure to snag your wristband to catch it all!

🎧 RIYL: Sam Evian, Andy Schauf, Broken Social Scene, Widowspeak, Kate Bollinger, Kurt Vile, Local Natives, wandering through a ghost town, dried flower bouquetsđŸ„€

THE LINDA LINDAS

punk, pop, indie rock

Despite all being in their teens, these badass chicas have a lot under their belt: a stadium tour with Green Day, an arena tour with Paramore, and have opening for the likes of Bikini Kill, The Rolling Stones, Rancid, and Smashing Pumpkins. In 2021 they made waves with their mid-pandemic live stream from an L.A library–at the time ranging in age from 10-16 (đŸ€Ż). TLDR: one of their band mates was getting bullied, they wrote a song about it, went viral, and snagged a record deal. Currently touring their sophomore album, this riotous pop-rock act brings edgy face-melting and youthful energy. While not everyone can become famous while fighting racism and misogyny, the Linda Lindas are heroes for millions of young girls who look like them, feel like them, and dream big like them. Come listen on Friday night (3/28) at Main Stage!

🎧 RIYL: Bikini Kill, Amyl and The Sniffers, Sleater-Kinney, illuminati hotties, Destroy Boys, Le Tigre, Be Your Own Pet , riot grrrl energy, sticking it to “the man”, pizza day in the school cafeteria 🍕

EMPRESS OF

pop, dance, electronic

Loreley Rodriguez, better known as the alt-pop princess EMPRESS OF, is an American-Honduran singer and songwriter whose self-empowering beats are both campy and unpredictable. Her latest album, For Your Consideration, is her most self-indulgent and poppy album yet; full of pulsating, bilingual house and dance tracks. She’s played with the likes of Lizzo, Carly Rae Jepson, Maggie Rogers, Jungle, Florence and the Machine, and Rina Sawayama. Be prepared for insatiable power-pop grooves that you won’t be able to get out of your head. This club set is gonna be banger after banger–catch ya under the disco ball!

🎧 RIYL: charlie xcx, Caroline Polachek, Channel Tres, Kaytranada, Olivia Rodrigo, Robyn, Magdalena Bay, Christine and the Queens, Hatchie, Slayyyter, butterfly clips in your hair, Doc Martins, going on a date at an art museum 🍑

PAW PAW ROD

soul, r&b, rap

Born in Hawaii and raised on the streets of Oklahoma, PAW PAW ROD is effortlessly cool. Blending rap, 60’s soul, and house with a nod to Motown, he is all about feel good, energetic, soulful tunes. Expect stream-of-consciousness melodies, groovy basslines, and a visionary new take on soul. It’s like 1970’s Stevie Wonder meets Andre 3000 with a dash of originality and heart. His debut single “HIT EM WHERE IT HURTS” was released in 2020 by GODMODE (JPEGMAFIA, Channel Tres). After spending half of 2024 opening for Still Woozy, he’s played Lollapalooza and ACL, and is now kicking off his own headline tour. His latest EP, Doobie Mouth, is out now and the perfect thing to get you feelin good when the sun sets at 5pm. This buzzy up-and-coming neo-soul artist is gonna be the talk of the town. We’ll see you in the crowd, bb!

🎧 RIYL: Stil Woozy, Magic City Hippies, Cool Company, Wajatta, Joshy Soul, Durand Jones & the Indications, Thundercat, Sault, cruisin’ with the top down, finding the perfect vintage 70’s pearl snap shirt 🚀

RECKLESS KELLY

country, americana, rock

Texas Country rockstars (no…legends) by way of Idaho, RECKLESS KELLY are here for all the boot stompin’ fun. Two years ago the band agreed upon a three-year retirement timeline–and instead they just released their 15th album, The Last Frontier. Fresh off a run co-headlining with the famed Steve Earle, it seems like these folks might be making music forever. Co-founded in 1996 by Willy and Cody Braun (two of four brothers, locally famous for their annual Braun Brothers Reunion Festival in Challis, ID) along with Jay Nazz, Joe Miller, and Geoff Queen, Reckless Kelly has barely taken a break from creating high-energy, relatable country tunes, and they’re sure not stopping now! Catch ’em kicking off Main Stage on Thursday 3/27!

🎧 RIYL: Micky and the Motorcars (the other two Braun Bros, what a family!!), Tyler Childers, Sturgill Simpson, Tylor & the Train Robbers, the TV show Yellowstone, yee-hawin’ at a rodeo, fresh air in the mountain west 🐮

JOSH RITTER & THE ROYAL CITY BAND

folk-rock, americana, blues

Brooklyn based by way of Moscow, Idaho, JOSH RITTER has been making folk music for decades–in 2006 he was named one of the “100 Greatest Living Songwriters” by Paste magazine. I listened to him allll the time in high school and have fond memories of putting his songs on burned CD’s to my friends. While his sounds have evolved over the many years, he always stays true to his narrative lyrics and has a certain je ne sais quoi which (yes, I’m biased as a local Idaho spud myself) I attribute to his youth in the great state of Idaho. Early in his career he met and toured with Glen Hansard (whom I adore for the musical Once) and Glen’s band The Frames, proceeded to headline with the famed Joan Baez (who later released her own version of Ritter’s song “Wings”), and it’s all been uphill from there. Full of folksy whimsy and heart, Josh Ritter & the Royal City Band recently released the 12th full length album, pulling influence from his religious upbringing, adventures in Idaho, and the spirit of traditional western folk songs. Don’t miss his Thursday (3/27) Main Stage set!

🎧 RIYL: Jason Isbell, John Prine, Dawes, The Tallest Man on Earth, Bright Eyes, Nathaniel Raitliff, The Avett Brothers, poetry by the river, wandering through an aspen grove in fall, strong whiskey đŸžïž

HINDS

Indie, pop, garage rock

Madrid garage-rockers Hinds is composed of two badass best friends, Carlotta Cosails and Ana Perrote. Beginning in 2001 under the name Deers, they faced threat of legal action by a similarly named band, so they reinvented themselves as Hinds (a word for a female deer) and never looked back. Their ramshackle garage-pop vibes were an instant hit, and they toured globally as support for The Strokes. Though they went through some difficulties with band members leaving in 2022, right before they were going to make their 4th album, they pushed on and came out with VIVA HINDS, a near perfect slacker-rock/indie-pop album whose name came stemmed from years of adoring fans chanting in the crowd. This latest album includes the song Boom Boom Back feat. Beck, which is an insatiable banger (Beck not included in their Treefort performance, unfortunately–we tried tho). Catch ’em at Main Stage on Sunday (3/30)!

🎧 RIYL: Dehd, Royel Otis, Soccer Mommy, Snail Mail, La Luz, Rubblebucket, Ducks Ltd., always having a scrunchie on your wrist, tigers blood shaved ice, owning like, one too many house plants 💝

DURAND BERNARR

R&B, funk, neo-soul, pop

Durand Bernarr is a tour-de-force and tbh so cool it hurts. But, with his approachable blend of funk, R&B, and Little Richard-esque attitude, he’s about to be a playlist mainstay. Durand Bernarr was one of the first Youtube sensations in 2007, leading to him spending time backing Erykah Badu. His vocals have been featured for other artists such as Anderson.Paak, Kaytranada and more, and his tunes are inclusionary, relatable, and soooo damn good. Trust me: peep his 2023 Tiny Desk performance. It’s giving Prince meets 90’s R&B realness that we are here for! Groove til ya drop at Main Stage on Saturday (3/29) with Durand Bernarr!

🎧 RIYL: Arlo Parks, Eryka Badu, Sade, Maxwell, Janelle Monae, KAYTRANADA, Ari Lennox, Cleo Soul, slow dancin’ with a Manhattan in hand, wearing a feather boa, performing underground slam poetry💅

LA LOM

mĂșsica tropical, cumbia, afro-cuban jazz, americana

Short for Los Angeles League of Musicians, these LA natives initially formed in 2019 as a background band for the lobby of the historic Roosevelt Hotel. Wellllll they didn’t stay in the background for long. LA LOM’s music is holistically LA, combining the sounds you’d hear on the streets and from car stereos with classic 1950’s and 60’s soul, traditional Mexican Boleros, Cumbia, Peruvian Chicha, and good ol’ fashioned Americana. They’ve performed on stage with Beck and are rumored to be working on a collab (god what is with Beck and Treefort bands this year, amirite??!), ran a recent stint opening for Vampire Weekend, and have played festivals with the likes of Lionel Ritchie, Gladys Knight and Smokey Robinson. They’ve got range, y’all. This vibrant instrumental band is a throwback to a bygone era–yet still wildly modern and danceable. They played Shrine Basement earlier this year, and I’ve never seen the space more packed, sweaty, and full of smiles. Literally cannot WAIT to have them back in Boise and tearin’ it up Sunday (3/30) of Treefort.

🎧 RIYL: Hermanos GutiĂ©rrez, Khruangbin, Thee Sacred Souls, Say She She, Mulatu Astake (this album may be my top album of all time, srsly), palm tree patio cocktails, classic cars, a Cubano sandwich 🌮

MÚM

indietronica, experimental pop, alt-rock

Icelandic icons mĂșm (pronunciation: moom) are pure magic. Their liquid soundscapes are highly experimental, using a variety of traditional and unconventional instruments. In fact, in the early aughts the band convinced the city of Reykjavik to buy underwater speakers so they could perform in a public pool: the audience had to submerge their ears to hear the music. If that doesn’t tell you what kinda show you’re in for, idk what will. While they built a deep indie cult following in the early 2000’s, they’ve also branched into the mainstream, including a 2013 collab with Kylie Minogue, which was also the last year they released an album. In 2019 they re-released their debut album and in 2020 launched their first US tour in decades. It’s finally time to welcome them to Boise!

🎧 RIYL: Sigur RĂłs, Björk, Sufjan Stevens, Animal Collective, Panda Bear, Jonsi, Fever Ray, if “unconventional instruments” is your middle name, putting on a vinyl record and laying on the floor, wandering through a forest chasing leaves in the wind 🍃
