GENERAL ARTIST FAQ

WHAT IS TREEFORT MUSIC FEST?

Treefort is effectively 14 festivals operating concurrently including Hackfort, Storyfort, Dragfort, Yogafort, Foodfort, Filmfort and more. In addition to hundreds of other multidisciplinary arts, thousands of artists descend upon downtown Boise, ID each year during the festival. There’s never a shortage of exciting and inspiring programming all organized by local cultural practitioners in their respective fields.

How can I best experience Treefort Music Fest?

Download the app! Then let the forces of Treefort take over your body (half kidding). You can create your own schedule and share with friends. Or roll the dice and wander in-between venues to discover the unexpected.

Where is Treefort and how do I get around?

Treefort is centralized in downtown Boise and all venues are within walking distance of each other.  You can check out a full map of the festival (check back if it isn’t up-to-date). There will also be a FREE bus service called the Treeline running throughout the festival footprint thanks for our friends at Valley Regional Transit. They’re also offering FREE rides to anyone with a wristband in the entire city of Boise for the duration of the festival. Very rad for those feeling like exploring.

WHAT ALL IS INCLUDED IN MY WRISTBAND?

Access to 99% of the events on the Treefort schedule. Explore the events descriptions for more details. There are a few extra ticketed events such as standalone dinners for Foodfort but you’re mostly safe to explore and attend anything on the schedule.  You can also search for artists, venues, or fort specific content. For example, search Filmfort to see all Filmfort events. You will also have access to the Artist Lounge with your artist lounge wristband.

What are the general rules and guidelines for Treefort Music Fest?

Well, that’s a whole other story! Check those out here.

Where do I pick up my artist bag and wristband?

You can pick up your designated wristband(s) at the Fort Check-in. Details on locations and hours of operations can be found above.

If you can’t make it to any of these times before your presentation, please reach out to alyson@treefortmusicfest.com ahead of time to make alternative arrangements.

What should I know about Boise?

Boise is a magical place that gets even more special when Treefort unleashes on the city. We’re a little bit of everything – cowboys, activists, artists, outdoor aficionados, potato loving peeps. We welcome all, encourage artistic expression, and pride ourselves on our community minded spirit. The weather always varies in March so we recommend dressing for spring weather. Some folks also like to show off their favorite festival fits so go hog wild! There’s something for everyone in our town and we’re excited to share it with you. There’s a reason they say If there’s something in particular you’re looking for such as the best seafood tower at the diviest bar in town, please don’t hesitate to ask our fort directors.

As a reminder for those traveling in from our weed friendly neighboring states — weed is still very illegal in Boise and the entire state of Idaho.

FILMFORT ARTIST FAQ

Where are the Filmfort Venues this year?

Treefort Music Fest is effectively 14 festivals operating concurrently including Filmfort, Hackfort, Storyfort, Dragfort, Yogafort, Foodfort, Alefort and more. Thousands of multidisciplinary artists descend upon downtown Boise, ID each year during the festival bringing a bustle to the streets and electricity in the air. There’s never a shortage of exciting and inspiring programming all organized by local cultural practitioners.

What does the Q&A portion of my screening look like?

After each screening, we invite attending filmmakers to join us for a moderated Q&A. Time is limited and with the aim of giving each film an opportunity to represent, we ask that each short film designate only 1-2 people from their team to speak during the short Q&A—typically this includes the director. For feature films, the Q&A experience is a little more flexible and can include multiple crew members from the film.

How can I connect with other artists during the festival?

Filmfort hosts a Filmmakers’ brunch on the Friday morning of the festival week. Details on this event will be shared in advance. Additionally, we typically gather all filmmakers who wish to be included in a WhatsApp chat to connect more directly through the festival! There is also a Treefort Artist Lounge where you can interact with artists from all forts. Details can be found here.

We brought extra people from our cast and crew! Do they get a free wristband as well?

All complimentary wristbands and Filmfort passes are secured prior to the festival so we cannot accommodate late wristband requests. It is possible we can help with a Filmfort Badge (allows entry into all Filmfort events) or single screening tickets. If special circumstances apply, please contact the festival director to discuss your situation. You can always purchase Treefort Music Fest wristbands in advance of the festival online here.

What are alumni filmmakers saying about Filmfort?

“Filmfort truly knows how to take care of its filmmakers! From the minute we were accepted, communication was clear and thorough and the team was organized. The programming was varied and exciting and the audiences were enthusiastic. We loved the filmmaker brunch which allowed us to meet every filmmaker there. We felt we got to spend a lot of quality time with each filmmaker since the group stuck together. And Boise is such a walkable city! It was easy to get around and feel that we were close to everything going on. Overall, the festival really delivered and we came home feeling inspired!” —Pisie Hochheim & Tony Oswald, co-directors, “Cycles”

“There’s no other film festival like this. Incredible programming and pure hospitality. The other forts running parallel are just as good. It’s impossible to be bored. You’ll leave energized and inspired.” — Michael Curtis Johnson, director, “Cotton Candy Sky”

“My fav film fest experience of all time.” — Ben Petrie, director, “The Heirloom”

“Great curation of films, so many opportunities to meet and hang out with other filmmakers, the people who run the festival are talented filmmakers themselves and all so cool. Opportunities to see great live music, comedy, and all the other forts that take over Boise during the fest. We’ll be back to this one for sure!” — Sara Katarina Burke, co-director, “Can’t Seem To Make You Mine”
