Billings, MT

Multi-media artist Mary Kate Teske was raised on a farm in the Badlands of Eastern Montana. Mary Kate became acquainted with music at an early age while sitting in a combine or semi truck with her Dad and Grandpa. An uncle eventually tossed a guitar at her when she was in high school, which led her to teach herself to play, writing songs of her own, experimenting with her own form. Later gifted a 1952 0-18 Martin, Mary Kate set out to create an album. She tells stories born from her 30 years of life on the prairie. Living out of her 1961 Dodge Lancer, nomadically hopping from one end of Montana to the other MK has gathered experiences which have turned into stories, now songs. Those songs are featured on her debut self-titled album. Mary Kate Teske leans into the characters she’s met, the places she’s lived, and the jobs she’s had to share rich, emotive and vast narratives of a rural western world on the cusp of dying out.
