Maria Ayala is a Mexican born visual artist based in Boise. She’s currently in the season of unearthing her sense of cultural identity, which was blurred through early childhood immigration. Maria creates psychological windows where her shadow’s salt water can disinfect the dysphoric fractures of colonization and generational trauma. Her work in the mental healthcare field has influenced her understanding of art as a pathway for unpacking and processing adverse life experiences. She works in acrylic, oil, digital, large scale and prefers using upcycled surfaces. She is inspired by cycles of the natural world, the nonlinear nature of grief and works by Swoon, Nadia K Waheed, and Remedios Varo
