Arequipa, Peru

Los Chapillacs was born in the traditional Barrio del Solar, in the outskirts of the city of Arequipa, in 2006. Thanks to the hunger to play and express themselves, the band has managed to position itself among the most important groups of contemporary Peruvian Psychedelic Chicha. In February 2007 they recorded their first demo "¡Ahora sí!", where the hits "La cumbia delincuencial" and "Salsatanás" appear. This demo was quickly mobilized thanks to the American label Masstrópica in 2008, who released a single on 45 RPM vinyl with the songs "La cumbia delincuencial" and "Recordando a Marión". In July 2010, Los Chapillacs released the album "Odisea Cumbia 3000", attracting the attention of the country's main media, radio and television. The band manages to capture in their first work the richness of the roots of Peruvian cumbia, fusing it with new musical elements and achieving their own sound full of rhythm, strength and feeling. Having as a guest one of the most representative voices of contemporary cumbia as Pascualillo Coronado, called "El Rey de la Carretera Central", they record the song "He traicionado tu amor". In 2010 they are also included in a worldwide compilation called Beginners Guide to Cumbia, edited by the label Nascente Records (UK), in which they appear along with other greats of the world cumbia as: Los Destellos, Lisandro Meza, Andrés Landero, Los Mirlos, Ska Cubano, Totó la Momposina y sus Tambores, and Celso Piña. At the same time, the song "Agüita de poto" is included in the Peruvian compilation "Botiquín" made by La Casa del Auxilio. At the end of 2010, thanks to gaining recognition from the press and especially from the Peruvian public, Los Chapillacs are called to make a commercial for the Metropolitano de Lima. In the spring of 2011, the band internationalizes touring Chile and Argentina, with their first Latin American tour: treading different stages of Santiago de Chile, Valparaiso, Mendoza, Buenos Aires and Mar del Plata. In the latter city, they are invited to close the first date of the Trimarchi DG festival in its 10th edition. In 2013, the song "He traicionado tu amor" is included in the compilation The Rough Guide to Cumbia. In the middle of that same year, Los Chapillacs share the stage with The Wailers, Miki González and Los Fabulosos Cadillacs in Arequipa in the festivals for the anniversary of the city and also participate in the Festival de Música y Artes Selvámonos. At the beginning of 2014, they make a new international tour of Chile, playing in Santiago, Valparaíso and Concepción, sharing stages with artists such as Anarkía Tropical and Chico Trujillo. The following year they make their first tour of Brazil, visiting the cities of Porto Alegre, Florianopolis, Sao Paulo and Santa Maria, in the latter being part of the Morrostock International Festival. Already in 2016 they make a new tour of Chile, giving three highly summoning concerts for the great Peruvian commune, celebrating the 195" Anniversary of the Independence of Peru. In 2017, they are presented in an episode of the program País Musical, the audiovisual session of the Descabellado collective, with the renowned Daniel F as guest. In addition, the Ministry of Culture of Peru presents the results of the Call for the Music Festival and "Playlizt Session" 2017, being selected among the winning projects. In 2018, they are beneficiaries of the economic stimulus for culture provided by the Ministry of Culture of Peru for record recording. They continue during 2019 with presentations in venues such as Hay Festival! and Festival Alternativo Movistar. In October 2020, and due to restrictions due to the global pandemic, Los Chapillacs perform a virtual concert as a presentation of "Fiesta de Salvación", an EP that includes the songs "Día de Salvación" and "Fiesta de Mostros", which would become the first two cuts of the next album. During that year and at the beginning of the following one, they advance with the recording process for their new record production, the album entitled "Lo bueno, Lo malo, Lo feo y Los alaracosos Chapillacs", which will be released on September 24, 2021 in vinyl format, distributed worldwide by the Spanish label Munster Records. This second studio album features the collaboration of artists such as Daniel F, Laurita Pacheco, Lucho Carrillo (Cumbia All Stars, Los Diablos Rojos), Rony Carbajal (X Dinero) and folklorist Filiberto Barrios from Arequipa. The album received very good reviews from the specialized press in different parts of the world and led to invitations to make the first European tour at the end of 2022. This is how the band ventures into their first European experience playing in cities like Madrid, Barcelona and ending with their participation in the final date of the Alhambra Monkey Week 2022 in Seville, having great success in the radio and written press of Spain.
