Leaway

Boise, ID

Leaway is an alternative rock band from Boise, Idaho. The band was founded by Randy McCurdy in 2018, when he discovered his passion for DIY music. McCurdy is the frontman, guitarist, and primary songwriter of the project.

The band has a groovy blend of hard rock, latin, indie, emo punk, and art rock. Leaway will leave you feeling cool, mystical, and moody.

Leaway finds their solace listening to Queens of the Stone Age, My Chemical Romance, Radiohead, Paramore, The Brobecks, Twenty One Pilots, and Dead Poet Society.

The band started playing DIY venues and going street and busking. Leaway went on a small tour busking the streets of Oregon and Washington in 2020. They began playing many shows in 2021, and were most recognized for their drum circle in the park. The raw energy from their performance had audiences raving. In 2022, the full band marched through the Pacific Northwest on their first small tour as a full band. After a hiatus, Randy took his songs to Jason at the Tonic Room studio in Boise and recorded Leaway’s first EP, Growing Pains.

In 2023, the band experienced a lineup change, turning into a harmonious three piece. Gavin Verandes joined on drums, adding discipline and versatility to Leaway’s drum parts. He took initiative to find a project that suited him and confidently teamed up with Randy. Shortly after, Bella Bennett joined on bass and cello, adding spicy colors and groove. Gavin, Bella, and Randy used their perfect trifecta of rhythm and began writing; playing shows at notable Boise venues like Treefort Music Hall & Neurolux.

In 2024, Leaway partnered with Jason at the Tonic Room again to record before Randy and Bella moved to Newark, NJ. They are preparing for a second release with live favorites like “Lie to Me” and “Waltz”, so keep your eye out!

The band is still kicking and sharing ideas with each other, even though miles apart.
