For a long time, Jan Reed had been crafting little songs on her own, self-recorded in a closet or such, and released into the wild internet without much polish or planning. In 2021 she started recording her music more formally, inviting friends from the local music scene to contribute their skills, and eventually releasing “Everything Is Always EP” in 2022. Daniel Ojeda (drums) encouraged her to form a band, and invited Zach Degler (lead guitar) and Davis McDonald (bass) to participate. Jan invited her musical friends Jean Cardeño (mandolin and vocals) and Holly Beach (keys and vocals) to join, and well, the whole thing just clicked. With the contributions of each of these folks, Jan’s poignant lyrics and expressive voice are framed in an appropriately rich and colorful musical landscape. Their first single as a band— “Fishnet”— was released in September of 2023, and they are currently working on recording a full-length album to be released in late summer 2024. Their sound and performances are both fun and serious, raucous and mystical, and they have developed a reputation of summoning bizarre weather patterns when they play shows outdoors. So, um, bring a raincoat?
