On their new EP, 'Thought I Heard Your Car', Growing Pains has surrounded moments of intersecting anxiety and euphoria with a textural sound rooted in visceral reactions to the group’s visual inspirations as much as its rooted in their musical influences. Whether it’s breakbeat-lined grooves or a Taxi Driver sample, there is nothing the group won’t try if that is what it takes to express their musical catharsis to the fullest extent. During the writing and recording process they realized that only so much can be said with melodies and chords. Taking influence from the oceanic sonics of My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive, Thought I Heard Your Car shows the group exploring a heavy, claustrophobic soundscape that has come to define their stunning live shows. One can rest easy knowing they have a new Growing Pains EP to play over and over again as they wait to see what lies next for the ever-evolving group.
