🏠 Oakland, CA figure eight is an alternative rock band from Oakland, CA that initially began in 2020 as an experimental noise duo between Nash Rood and Abby Goeser, utilizing only a distorted synthesizer and an acoustic drum kit. Several members came in and out as the band expanded its sound until landing on the current lineup, which adds Nicholas Coleman (of Softie) on bass and Nicky Esparza (of Pork Belly) on drums. figure eight create heavy, noisy soundscapes with loud, feedbacking guitars, thundering bass, frantic drums, and fearless vocals, conveying a deeply empathetic, tender, and introspective emotional world. 2024’s self-titled EP (released on Cherub Dream Records) was recorded live to tape at San Francisco’s Different Fur Studios with the intention to capture an organic expression of the band playing in a room together. Minimal production leaves the recordings feeling energetic, spacious, and authentic to their live performances. Thematically, figure eight's most recent release explores presence, devotion, and tapping into ancestral memory. 2023’s ‘you cry for eternity’ EP and the debut 2022 cassette, ‘drown,’ feel like rediscovered 4-track recordings from a long lost band from the 1990’s–something that emerged from the haze of an underground music scene. ‘S/T’, however, feels bold, bright, and lively, displaying the band as a mature and confident group emerging from the eclectic Bay Area punk scene.
