Aaron Davis & The Mystery Machine
Music
Hoback, WY
A key character in propelling the gritty “WYOmericana” roots music scene in Wyoming, Aaron Davis (vocal, electric guitar, banjo, resonator, lap steel, harmonica) is a Wyoming-based/Kentucky native, chiefly known as co-founder of national touring act Screen Door Porch, and owner-engineer-producer-session player at Three Hearted Recording Studio in Hoback, Wyoming. Aaron has long worked the lesser-worn corners of the American musical fabric through an unconventional lens, a concept fervently developed by the phenomenal instrumentalists of The Mystery Machine—monster drummer-percussionist Liam Mountain O’Neill with 3-part harmony sung by consummate bassist David Bundy and skilled piano-organ-synth man Mike Patton. The quartet combines for “The vibe of The Band going throughout” (Wyoming Public Radio) with a dynamic stage show equally versed in group improvisations and intricate arrangements. It’s a rootsy celebration of mountain-inspired alt-country, groovy slide blues, story folk, gypsy grass, and funky roots rock. Over a decade of touring the country and staying true to the write-and-record troubadour lifestyle led the press to describe Aaron as “truly phenomenal songwriter” (Americana UK) with "a searing slide guitar" (Country Weekly), “a combination that goes down like top-shelf bourbon” (Austin Chronicle), and “a particularly standout approach that mixes poetry, groove and roughness” (Lonestar Time). Recognizing Aaron’s ten-album discography, he was one of two songwriters in Wyoming to receive a merit-based Songwriting Fellowship award from the National Endowment for the Arts. He’s been fortunate to share bills with many of his heroes including Wilco, Willie Nelson, Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit, Buddy Guy, Sam Bush, Brian Wilson, Steve Earle, Grace Potter, Sarah Jarosz, Justin Townes Earle, and James McMurtry.
