We’re also announcing a lineup of bands that will be playing a showcase on Thursday night hosted by new local, indie label WavePOP Records who have partnered with us and helped curate that showcase. Our final announcement will feature a few more community partnerships like these as well as our final Main Stage headliner and plenty more. For now, enjoy this round of artists, it’s a good one.

CamperVanBeethovenCAMPER VAN BEETHOVEN
((( santa cruz, california )))
Camper Van Beethoven is an American alternative rock group formed in Redlands, California in 1983 and later located in Santa Cruz and San Francisco. Their eclectic and ever-evolving style mixes elements of pop, ska, punk rock, folk, alternative country, and various types of world music. The band initially polarized audiences within the hardcore punk scene of California’s Inland Empire before finding wider acceptance and, eventually, an international audience. Their strong iconoclasm and emphasis on do-it-yourself values proved influential to the burgeoning indie rock movement. Their new album La Costa Perdida was released last week via 429 Records; they play Treefort on Sunday, March 24th with Built To Spill and others.

quasi2QUASI
((( portland, oregon )))
Quasi formed in Portland, Ore., in 1993, which means that it’s been fearlessly rocking since long before your website launched or you booted up an iPod. For years — 13 to be exact — it was a duo consisting of Sam Coomes and Janet Weiss. In 2006, Joanna Bolme (of Stephen Malkmus + The Jicks) joined the band on bass. Quasi flings words and notes relentlessly, hurling music across the stage like grenades. It is explosive and electrifying. They play Treefort on Friday March 22nd at El Korah Shrine Center with Built To Spill.

earthEARTH
((( seattle, washington )))
Earth is an American musical group based in Seattle, Washington, formed in 1990 and led by guitarist Dylan Carlson. Earth’s music is mostly instrumental, and can be divided into two distinct stages. Their early work grew out of the Seattle-area grunge scene and is recognized as pioneering the genre of drone doom — an experimental offshoot of doom metal, characterized by droning, minimalist, lengthy, and repetitive structures. Earth will headline a special showcase hosted by new local record label WavePOP on the first night of Treefort Music Fest 2013 at Neurolux.

ThermalsTHE THERMALS
((( portland, oregon )))

The Thermals are a post-pop-punk trio from pre-Portlandia-Portland, Oregon. The band was formed in 2002 and has released records on the classic Northwest labels Sub Pop and Kill Rock Stars. Their newest, soon-to-be-released sixth LP, Desperate Ground, was produced by John Agnello (Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth) in Hoboken, NJ. Agnello and The Thermals completed the record and evacuated the studio just hours before Hurricane Sandy ravaged New Jersey. Desperate Ground is a true scrappy and scratchy return-to-form for The Thermals, with all the raw power and unhinged adolescent energy that made their early LP’s so insanely enjoyable.

ElTenElevenEL TEN ELEVEN
((( silver lake, california )))
Armed with merely a doubleneck bass/guitar, drums and a dizzying array of foot pedals, the band creates complex, deeply felt music, from scratch, onstage, with no help from laptops, click tracks or additional musicians. They utilize multiple looping pedals to create songs that sound as though they are being played by at least six people. Most first-timers to an El Ten Eleven show are stunned that the band is a duo.

deathfixDEATHFIX
((( washington d.c. )))
Deathfix formed in 2009 after Brendan Canty (Fugazi) and Rich Morel (Morel, Blowoff) met while touring in Bob Mould’s band. Having discovered a shared affinity for the sounds of 1972 – particularly glam and progressive rock – they started getting together to work on music at Canty’s warehouse studio space. Two years later, hoping to graduate the band from its studio-shut-in phase to its live ensemble phase, they recruited multi-instrumentalists Devin Ocampo (Faraquet,Medications) and Mark Cisneros (Medications) to hold down the rhythm section. Deathfix is now a full-fledged band, with all four members contributing a share of the riffs, song arrangements, and production tricks. The band’s self-titled 7-song debut will be released in early 2013.

menace_ruineMENACE RUINE
((( montreal, quebec )))
Originating from Montréal, Québec in Canada, Menace Ruine are a duo who play a powerful hybrid of avant-garde black metal, dark ambient, drone and martial neo-folk. Formed in 2007, the band achieve their sound largely through the use of heavily manipulated and distorted effects and feedback, though one of their most distinctive elements is the sonorous vocals of Geneviève, reminiscent of a more melodious and doomy Nico. As far as we know, this is their first visit to Boise. They will play right before EARTH on the WavePOP showcase at Neurolux on Thursday March 21st — the first night of Treefort Music Fest 2013.

wolvserpentWOLVSERPENT
((( boise, idaho )))
Boise, Idaho’s mysterious occult duo WOLVSERPENT formed in 2009 and consist of Blake Green (guitar, vocals, keys) and Brittany McConnell (drums, percussion, violin). The duo play a masterful mix of apocalyptic doom, avant-orchestral drone and blackened, sepulchral ambience. 2010 saw the release of their debut full-length Blood Seed which was met with immense critical acclaim and quickly sold out of its limited edition pressings. In 2012 the band signed to renowned indie label Relapse Records are in the process of recording their sophomore full-length entitled PERIGAEA, a four song 80 minute opus, with producer/engineer Mell Dettmer (SUNN 0))), BORIS, ASVA, EARTH) in Seattle and in Idaho at their home studio. Wolvserpent will also play the WavePOP showcase at Neurolux on Thursday March 21st.

uzalaUZALA
((( boise, idaho )))
Formed in 2009, UZALA is a fuzz ridden icy landscape hailing from both Boise, Idaho and Portland, Oregon. With a nod to the masters of early 70′s metal, and yet a unique sound all their own, UZALA is a traditional doom metal band unlike any you have heard before. Excited to have them at Treefort this year as they too will play the WavePOP showcase at Neurolux on the first night of the festival with Earth, Menace Ruine, Wolvserpent and Brett Netson & Snakes.

tartufiTARTUFI
((( san francisco, california )))
Having formed in 2001, the San Francisco trio comprised of Lynne Angel, Brian Gorman and Ben Thorne, has become well know for their loop-heavy sonic soundscapes, overlaying harmonies, melodies and poly-rhythms. The effect is something unlike most popular music today, an aural overhaul, a hypnotic surrender to their sound and a wonder to witness, live or on record. Topping many a “best of list” through the years and with six studio albums under their belts, these bastions of the San Francisco scene are showing no signs of slowing with the release of their new album These Factory Days (Southern Records) slated for March of 2013. Tartufi truly are adopted musical family in the Boise scene, and we’re very excited to have them back at Treefort this year.

rose_windowsROSE WINDOWS
((( seattle, washington )))
Rose Windows is a group of friends, as well as a 7 piece ensemble that operates under the influence of Chris Cheveyo and Rabia Qazi. After the initial light is received by Chris and Rabia, it is then concentrated through the kaleidoscope of Nils, David, Pat, Duke, and Veronica. Their musical influences are many but can be aurally traced back to: Sun City Girls, Black Sabbath, Frank Zappa, Tinariwen, Erkin Koray, Tom Waits, Earth, and just about every measure of delta blues. Their debut LP “The Sun Dogs” is slated for release sometime early 2013, hopefully in time for their Treefort Music Fest appearance.

blasted_canyonsBLASTED CANYONS
((( san francisco, california )))
Blasted Canyons is Heather Fedewa (also of Wax Idols), Adam Finken and Matt Jones. Together, they round robin instruments and crush huge riffs, singalongs, caveman drums, and gooey synthesisers into thrashy wizard rock for weirdos that dig dorky shit but aren’t total dorks about it. And yeah, with a bio like that they definitely deserve a second dose of Treefort. Excited to have them back, and with some more of their Castleface Records buddies this year as well (Wax Idols, Burnt Ones, The Mallard and more).

natasha_kmeto_2NATASHA KMETO
((( portland, oregon )))
Exploring the more soulful side of beats and future bass, Kmeto combines talent and acuity behind the boards with a gorgeously rich singing voice. Her live show is a thinking-person’s visceral dance party, often reaching levels of energy so high Natasha herself comes out to join her audience on the dance floor. She will play the Treefort late-night electronic show on Friday 3/22.

the_mallardTHE MALLARD
((( san francisco, california )))
The Mallard are an inside-out-echo-laser-garage-psych-rock trio from San Francisco. Their home fried songs harness the naked abandon of 60’s punk (think earliest syd barrett era pink floyd), but inject the form with a deranged spirit all their own. Close attention to texture and dynamics allow the band to explore unusual terrain – to grant access into unexpected realms of beauty and terror…with dessert. The Mallard rocked The Manor out in Caldwell in the summer of 2012, excited to have them back to play Treefort this year.

wax_idolsWAX IDOLS
((( oakland, california )))
It seems odd that the four-piece Wax Idols reside in Oakland, California. Especially considering the fact that the band’s sophomore LP Discipline & Desire, out March 26th on Slumberland Records, embodies a dark, full, twisted sound: something that feels more appropriate to the foggy, damp British climate than that of sunny California. But that’s Wax Idols — zigging where other might zag, and always going their own way.

burnt_onesBURNT ONES
((( san francisco, california )))
“The band’s dark blasts of fuzzed-out guitars, giant punches of drumming, and anthemic howls have already been pressed onto a handful of singles (most of which are long sold-out) and one long-player. The latest 7″ though—released on Warm Soda’s imprint, Fuzz City Records—may contain the band’s most brilliantly realized nugget yet: “Protection Circle.” Throwing fistfuls of dark magic, high voltage electricity, and gold-speckled glitter into a black cauldron, Burnt Ones summon up a piece of truly quaking boogie-rock ecstasy.” – Everybody Taste

Lenguas_LargasLENGUAS LARGAS
((( tucson, arizona )))
Lenguas Largas are from Tucson, AZ. Featuring members of Swing Ding Amigos, the Blacks, Shark Pants, Treepeople, Digital Leather, Sexy so you know they aren’t messing around. Lenguas Largas employs cold, minimal, post-punk stylistic leanings and tosses them through everything in the kitchen sink. They will play Treefort on Saturday March 23rd with Built To Spill and others.

finn_rigginsFINN RIGGINS ((( boise, idaho )))
With deep roots in the foundation and operation of Treefort Music Fest, this well-travelled co-ed rock trio will once again kick the festival off at 6pm on Thursday March 21st. This year, Finn Riggins’ first set of the festival will take place in new Treefort venue the El Korah Shrine Center across Idaho St. from The Record Exchange. It is one of many All Ages venues that will host Treefort 2013 shows.

DeathSongsDEATH SONGS ((( portland, oregon )))
Death Songs was formed by Nicholas and Nathan Delffs in the Summer of 2007. When they weren’t touring or recording with their other band (The Shaky Hands), they were putting all of their time and energy into this project. They will headline a showcase at The Crux on Thursday March 21st hosted by locally-based record label Post-Consumer Records.

DARK SWALLOWS ((( boise, idaho )))
Dark Swallows is an American rock band based in Boise, Idaho featuring Phil Merrell on guitar, Hyrum Haeberle on guitar and bass, Ivy Meissner on guitar and bass and Stephen Samuelson on keys and drums.

BRETT NETSON & SNAKES ((( boise, idaho )))
One of Boise’s most hallowed musical treasures. Brett Netson and his band of Snakes will open the WavePOP showcase at Neurolux with Earth, Menace Ruine, Wolvserpent and Uzala.

SHY GIRLS ((( portland, oregon)))
Shy Girls is an R&B experience out of Portland, Ore. Producer and vocalist Dan Vidmar came to Portland several years ago by way of Pennsylvania, taking a loft apartment in the city’s inner Eastside industrial district. Shy Girls have begun to really turn heads in PDX and it’s starting to spread.

TERROR PIGEON DANCE REVOLT ((( brooklyn, new york )))
Founded in late 2007 as means for front man Neil Fridd to yell about his romantic mishaps, The Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt! has blossomed into a real juggernaut of epic dance floor revelation. What do they sound like? It’s sorta dance-soul music, like synthed out Otis Redding covers on fast forward.

KARAOKE FROM HELL ((( portland, oregon )))
Karaoke From Hell started off largely as a performance art project. The act was founded in the early 90′s by local music icons Tres Shannon and Dawn Panttaja. They had a simple concept: karaoke with a live band. The fact that neither the singers nor the musicians practiced any of the songs ensured that Karaoke From Hell lived up to its name — to the delight of all in attendance. Over the last two decades, KFH has evolved into an active, professional band that plays over 500 songs from nearly every musical genre. They will play after Built To Spill at El Korah Shrine Center on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Treefort 2013.

GENDERS ((( portland, oregon )))
Genders is a psych-pop-mope-dance band hailing from Portland, Ore. They play on the Saturday Built To Spill show at El Korah Shrine Ceneter. This is their first time playing in Boise.

SCARF ((( boise, idaho )))
Key component to the Bands Of The 208 era of the Boise house show scene, Scarf are back for a rare performance. They play Friday night of Treefort 2013 on the Friday Built To Spill show.

THE HAND ((( boise, idaho )))
The Hand was formed in 1999 when Darin Dodd (The Executioners, Knucklehead) and Scott Schmaljohn (State of Confusion, The Treepeople, Stuntman, The Treatment) returned home from Seattle to team up to create a loud, stripped down three piece rock unit. They play the Sunday night Built To Spill show at Treefort 2013.

TOMMY DIRTWEED ((( boise, idaho )))
Bass player and vocalist for legendary Caustic Resin. The one and only, Tommy Dirtweed, will play with his band on the Sunday night Built To Spill show.

THE APOSTROPHES ((( seattle, washington )))
